Lawyer lodges report for ridiculing Prophet and Yang di-Pertuan Agong [NSTTV]

GEORGE TOWN: A lawyer and freelance writer lodged a police report, alleging several quarters of ridiculing Prophet Muhammad and the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Muhammad V in Facebook and WhatsApp.

Datuk Abu Backer Sidek Mohamad Zan, 49, said this happened during the appointment of Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong on Thursday.

“Several FB users had in their comments alleged that Yang di-Pertuan Agong had followed Prophet Muhammad’s footsteps in delaying the prime minister’s swearing in ceremony.

“They commented without thinking, and do not understand the swearing in process.

“As Malaysians, this should not have happened,” he said when met outside the northeast district police headquarters here today.

Abu Backer said the rude and uncouth statements, written by a person named Revi Kumar.

“As a Muslim, his remarks are uncouth and can cause division among the different races.

“There are even FB account holders who left comments, urging the royal institution to be abolished, claiming the Yang di-Pertuan Agong purposely delayed the swearing in ceremony,” he added.

According to him, the many FB users, who had passed such remarks, were only good in writing comments but had shallow knowledge on the country’s constitution.

“We are living in a civilised country and free to give our comments but it should not cross the boundary as it can lead to further problems.

“As such, I hope the police will investigate and take appropriate action.” he said.
