Parking tout fined RM500 for demanding parking fees from motorist

KUALA LUMPUR: A parking tout was fined RM500 by the magistrate’s court here today for forcing a motorist to park his vehicle and demanded parking fees without valid authority.

Magistrate Farah Adlini Mohd Din meted out the fine, in default of 10 days jail to Jasni Mat Lias, 42, after the accused pleaded guilty to the offence.

Jasni who is homeless was accused of forcing a motorist to park his Toyota Estima car and demanded the latter for payment.

He committed the offence at Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman, here, at about 12.15am on May 24.

He was charged under Section 50(3) of the Road Transport Act 1987 which carried a fine of up to RM2,000, or imprisonment for up to six months, if found guilty.

In pleading for leniency, Jasni who was unrepresented said he is homeless and has no money to pay the fine.

Prosecuting officer Inspector Abdullah Khazali said it was Jasni’s second offence.
