Architect remanded for five days over RM300 million project's tender abuse

PUTRAJAYA: An architect with government-linked company (GLC) was remanded for five days to assist investigations involving the tender of several construction projects in Putrajaya worth RM300 million.

Magistrate Muhammad Bukhori Md Ruslan allowed the application from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for the remand which took effect from today till July 5.

The 42-year-old man was arrested at 1.30pm on Saturday at the MACC Headquarters in Putrajaya.

It is learnt that the suspect who served as an architect in the GLC was believed to be the middleman in the deal which saw costs being manipulated for the construction projects.

Initially, the project was awarded to a company via a tender process, but the suspect deliberately placed many hurdles which led to the designated party failing in its endeavours to carry out the project.

Subsequently, the project was then given to a replacement contractor who was believed to have links with the suspect and it is understood that the whole thing had already been planned earlier

On Wednesday the chief executive officer of the GLC was released on a bail of RM50,000 in one surety after the MACC made no request to extend his remand.

The man, with the title “Datuk”, had been on remand since last Thursday for investigation under Section 17 (a) of the MACC Act 2009.
