Beauty company fined for selling dubious cosmetics and supplements [NSTTV]

KOTA KINABALU: A beauty supplement company that sold products which could potentially jeopardise people’s health was fined RM4,000 at the Sessions Court here.

Five of the products were not registered while another had no notification with the National Pharmaceutical Regulatory department under the Health Ministry.

The company, Jesseltonborneo Beauty House Sdn Bhd, was found guilty under the Control of Drugs and Cosmetics Regulations 1984.

Prosecuting officer Liew Zhan Yit who represented the Sabah Health department told the court the products, seized at the company’s outlet in Kota Marudu on Jan 17, had doubtful contents which could potentially jeopardise public health.

Judge Ainul Shahrin Mohamad handed down the penalty or RM2,000 for selling the unregistered products and RM2,000 for selling the unnotified product. The products were also ordered disposed.

The five unregistered products were Queen of Mutiara (for bottles), Herbal Detox D'herbs (12 boxes), Rerama Plus Belalai Gajah (four boxes), Belalai Gajah Plus Durian Belanda (four boxes) and Gel Amani (two boxes).

The unnotified products were 25 bottles of Dnars Sunny Cream.

In mitigation after admitting the offence, company representative Rohaya Shapiin, 54, said they were not aware the products were not registered or notified with the authorities.

The resource manager said the items were advertised on television.

"Products advertised on television are usually registered and with notification. I'm sorry as I'm really not aware (of the products being unregistered and not notified)," she said.
