Angry man kills relative after being abruptly awakened from sleep

IPOH: A man, angry at being abruptly awakened from his deep slumber, decided to get even by beating his relative to death at a house in Menglembu here, early this morning.

In the 2.30am incident, the 62-year-old victim was found dead by police at the house with injury marks on the back of his body as a result of the attack.

Ipoh police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Ali Tamby said closer checks revealed that the victim also had injuries to his face, believed to have been hit with an umbrella.

He said after the incident, the 69-year-old, went to the Menglembu police station claiming that he and his grandson had been beaten up by “people who were fighting”.

He was then asked to help direct police to the scene of "incident".

"He could not find the location even after one hour of driving and was taken back to the police station. After, questioning, he led police to the actual crime scene," said Mohd Ali in a statement here, today.

Mohd Ali said the Perak police forensic team later retrieved several items including umbrellas and brooms to assist probe, and had also taken blood samples from the suspect.

"There were no witnesses and the suspect related what happened to the police officer on duty," he said.

Mohd Ali said checks revealed that the unemployed suspect was detained before and had undergone treatment at the Tanjung Rambutan Hospital, Perak, in the 90's.

He said the victim had six criminal and drug-related records. He had been staying with the suspect for the past month and both of them often had disagreements.

The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder. -- BERNAMA
