Segambut woman charged with torturing her six cats

KUALA LUMPUR: A logistics coordinator was charged at the sessions court here today with torturing her six pet cats, six months ago.

Nor Atikah Dzolkifli, 27, pleaded not guilty to the charge which was read to her before judge Manira Mohd Nor.

She was charged with causing unnecessary pain and suffering to her six cats at Taman Sri Sinar Segambut here, at 12.30pm on April 17.

Her charge under Section 29(1)(e) of the Animal Welfare Act 2015 carries a fine

of not less than RM20,000 and not more than RM100,000; or imprisonment for a term not more than three years, if convicted.

Federal Territories Veterinary Services Department prosecuting officer Hasiah Musa proposed RM3,000 bail.

In pleading for lower bail, the unrepresented accused said she was having financial problems.

The court granted RM3,000 bail in one surety and fixed Nov 14 for mention.
