11 KK cops detained by MACC released on bail

KOTA KINABALU: 11 police personnel and officers as well as one retired policeman were released from remand at the Magistrate's Court, here, today.

They were arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for investigation into suspected corruption.

All individuals were brought before Magistrate Cindy Mc Juce Balitus, who ordered the retired policeman to pay RM10,000 bail in one local surety.

The others were released on police bail.

Cindy also instructed the 12 individuals - ranking from corporal, lance corporal, sergeant and inspector - to report themselves at a police station once a month.

Prosecuting officer Mohd Faliq Basiruddin represented the Sabah MACC.

On Oct 9, MACC detained 10 policemen and a police retiree to assist in an investigation over alleged bribery.

Another personnel was detained on Oct 13 for a similar case.

They were being probed for receiving bribes from drug dealers and addicts since 2014, in return for not taking action against them.

They were attached to the Kota Belud police headquarters, Beluran police headquarters, Kota Kinabalu police headquarters, and Sabah police headquarters.

All of them used to work at the Narcotics Crime Investigation Department of the Kota Belud district police headquarters.
