Angry driver behind the wheel that mowed down Wan Amirah in Cyberjaya

PUTRAJAYA: The motorist who rammed his car into several vehicles and killed a pedestrian in the hit-and-run incident yesterday was believed to be furious when he was not allowed to park his car in the shopping area.

According to the victim’s friend Suhaili Yahaya, a security guard there told him that the driver was fuming as he drove away in his car.

“According to the security guard, the driver is a foreigner and his accent suggests that may have come from the Middle East,” he told the NSTP when met at the Putrajaya Hospital Forensic Department here today.

In the hit-and-run accident, assistant manager with a telecommunication company in Cyberjaya Wan Amirah Wan Alias, was seriously injured when she was mowed down and dragged by a car at the Shaftbury Square about 7.45pm yesterday.

She succumbed to her injuries at the Putrajaya Hospital this morning. She was 31.

Suhaili, 33, said Wan Amirah was carrying a plastic bag which suggested that she had just came out from one of the shops to buy food.

“We learned that Amirah had just finished work and dropped by the Shaftsbury Square in Cyberjaya to buy dinner for her and her family.

“If you look at the video that has now gone viral, Amirah was not looking at her phone during the accident and she tried to avoid the car,” he said.

Suhaili said he actually received a call from an unknown person who told him that Wan Amirah was involved in an accident at the Maju Expressway (MEX).

“I immediately called MEX but was informed that there was no such accident. My friends and I tried to find Wan Amirah for nearly an hour by calling different hospitals.

He said Putrajaya Hospital later informed him that Amirah was in the critical zone and that they had been trying to get in touch with her next-of-kin.

Suhaili said he also managed to get the Shaftbury management to show him the closed circuit television (CCTV) recording of the accident.

More than 50 family members and friends gathered outside the hospital waiting for Wan Amirah’s remains to be brought home. She will be buried at Bukit Kiara cemetery in Kuala Lumpur at a later time.
