Former Tampin district police chief charged for allegedly cheating two people

KUALA LUMPUR: Former Tampin district police chief was charged at the Sessions Court here for allegedly cheating two people to sell a property worth RM680,000 by impersonating to be a lawyer two years ago.

Ab Gani Che Man who retired with a rank of Deputy Superintendent, however pleaded not guilty when the charge was read to him before Judge Zamri Bakar.

He was charged with inducing two retirees Ali Abdullah and Azman Yahya to sell the property by impersonating as a qualified lawyer at No 2-1 Jalan 1/76C, Desa Pandan on Aug 18.

The offence falls under Section 420 of the Penal Code which carries a maximum 10-year imprisonment, whipping and fine upon conviction.

The 68-year-old also pled not guilty with alternative charge of committing criminal breach of trust involving RM680,000 at Ab Gani Che Man & Co, Jalan 1/76C, Desa Pandan, between March 20, 2017 and April 28, 2017.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Norashikin Ibrahim pressed for RM50,000 bail stating that it was a serious case.

However, counsel N. Kalyana Sundaram who represented the accused pleaded for minimum bail stating that his client had given full cooperation to the police investigation.

“He is a former police officer and retired as former OCPD for Tampin district in Negeri Sembilan,” he said.

The court set bail at RM30,000 with one surety and ordered the accused to surrender his passport.

The court also fixed Nov 16 for mention.
