Police continue to hunt other Abu Sayyaf members

KOTA KINABALU: Police are still tracking the remaining members of the Abu Sayyaf group following the recent arrest of seven people at several locations in the state.

State police commissioner Datuk Omar Mammah said police were hunting the rest who were still at large based on intelligence.

“There are some of them that are being hunted but we cannot tell how many of them,” he said after a policing community programme with Sabah Police Commissioner at Kampung Tanjung Aru hall.

He also urged the public not to be worried as most of those terrorists would not reveal themselves.

“Those who are involved in the Islamic State (IS) are in hideouts to ensure they did not get detected.”

Inspector General of police Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun had in his statement yesterday said the seven Filipinos and a local arrested were believed to be involved in terrorism.

They were arrested in different busts in Putrajaya and Sabah between Oct 30 and Nov 12 in Tenom, Kinarut and Ranau.

Earlier, when asked on shooting case off Sandakan waters last night, Omar said the incident occured in a neighbouring country.
