KEPALA BATAS: Two men have been detained while another is on the run after threatening their family members in three separate incidents at the weekend.
On Saturday, police arrested a 44-year-old man during a crime prevention round in Kuala Muda, Penaga, near here, because he had threatened his 78-year-old father with a sickle.
At 5.30pm yesterday, police arrested a 29-year-old man in Pekan Darat, Sungai Dua, near here, after he pointed a knife at his mother and younger sibling when they did not give him RM50.
Seberang Prai Utara district police chief Assistant Commissioner Noorzainy Mohd Noor said both suspects were nabbed for threatening the lives of their family members and for fear of worse things to come.
“In the first case, we detained the suspect during a crime prevention round for threatening his father with a sickle, and we were told the incident was not the first.
“According to the father, the suspect often ran amok and threatened family members, especially while under the influence of drugs.”
Noorzainy said in the second case, the suspect’s younger sibling had told police that the brother had pointed a knife at their mother for not giving him money.
“The younger sibling lodged the report because of fear for their safety and the suspect’s uncertain behaviour,” he said.
“The suspect also cut his mother’s car tyre and broke a room door.”
He added that in both incidents the family members were not injured.
He said the cases were being investigated under Sections 506 and 427 of the Penal Code respectively.
Noorzainy said police were on the hunt for a 32-year-old suspect who had threatened to kill his mother in an incident at Kampung Pinang Raja, Pinang Tunggal, about 12.40pm yesterday.
“The suspect is said to have held a nail and threatened to kill his mother.
“He suddenly ran amok when his mother asked him to join them for a meal. He is believed to be under the influence of drugs,” he said adding that the suspect had then fled.
