Woman fined RM8,000 for possessing 18 live bullets

SEPANG: Wife of former defence adviser to the Turkish Embassy here was fined RM8,000 by the magistrate’s court today for possessing 18 small-sized live bullets without approval.

Fatma Nilufer Senyuva, 62, pleaded guilty to committing the offence at Gate C15, Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Departure at 10.43pm on Sept 20.

Magistrate Yusna Khadijah Md Yusop ordered her to undergo eight months’ jail if she failed to pay the fine.

The charge was under Section 8(a) of the Arms Act 1960.

The offence carries a jail term of not more than seven years or a fine of not more than RM10,000, or both.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Aziatul Afrizan Alias prosecuted while counsel Zaflee Pakwanteh represented Fatma Nilufer.

Earlier during the proceedings Zaflee urged the court to impose a minimum penalty, considering his client was currently in the ‘Malaysia My Second Home’ programme.

She had also applied to be a Permanent Resident (PR) here.

He said his client pledged not to repeat her mistake and that she suffered from thyroid problem and fell into depression due to the case.

He also said his client was rushing to leave for Turkey as her father-in-law had passed away and she didn’t realise the presence of the bullets in her bag.

Zaflee added that she had never been arrested by the Turkish authorities and this was her first offence in Malaysia.
