Two Datuks charged with accepting deposits without valid licence [NSTTV]

TAIPING: Two ‘Datuks’ pleaded not guilty at the Sessions Court here today for accepting deposits, totalling RM51,673 from the public without valid licences three years ago.

Datuk M. Pandeyan, 57, and Datuk Ameer Noraizeedin Abdul Wahab, 49, made the plea after the charges were read out to them before deputy registrar, Suhaima Mohd Noor.

The two businessmen received a total of RM47,273 from T. R. Subramaniam at Public Bank Taiping branch between July 23, 2015 and August 8, 2015.

Meanwhile, Pandeyan also pleaded not guilty for another same offence. He was allegedly accepting RM4,400 from A. Shanmugam at the same place on April 14, 2016 at 3.17pm.

They were jointly charged under Section 137(2) of the Financial Services Act 2013 which carries a fine of up to RM50 million, or imprisonment for not more than 10 years, if found guilty.

Ameer Noraizeedin was released on RM6,000 bail, while Pandeyan was released on RM9,000 bail in one surety each.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Sariza Ismail prosecuted, Pandeyan was represented by lawyer Md Yunos Shariff, while Ameer Noraizeedin was not represented. The court set Feb 15 next year for re-mention.
