Man, wife remanded 4 days for allegedly scalding daughter

GEORGE TOWN: A 41-year-old man, who reportedly splashed hot water on his 8-year-old daughter, has been remanded for four days to assist police investigation.

His 34-year-old wife, who was picked up with him in front of a durian shop in Jalan Paya Terubong yesterday was also remanded.

Bernama reported that the remand order was issued by George Town Sessions Court/Criminal Magistrate's Court assistant registrar Muna Maria Azmi.

The couple arrived at the court at 11.30am today and left 20 minutes later.

They were detained by police under Section 31(1) (a) of the Child Act 2001.

It was initially reported that the man had scalded his daughter after accusing the girl of stealing RM10 from her mother in their Kampung Melayu flat here last week.

Following investigation, it was found that the man had acted violently towards his own child because his four children, aged between three and nine, including the victim, had finished all the food prepared by his wife.

Soon after the incident, the man and his wife fled from home with their youngest child.
