Traditional healer attacks couple before stabbing himself to death

KLUANG: A married couple narrowly escaped death after a traditional healer suddenly went into a trance like state and attacked them with a parang.

After attacking the couple, the man locked himself in a room and committed suicide.

The incident happened in the couple’s house at Taman Kiara Mas 2, here about 10.30am.

Kluang police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Abduh Ismail said the couple, aged 47 and 41, escaped with minor cuts.

He said the traditional healer, 25, worked as a bank clerk, and was close to the couple.

Mohd Abduh said the clerk had gone to the couple’s house to treat the wife, who was said to be a victim of sorcery.

“He had been treating the woman for some time.

“However, this time around he suddenly went into a trance like state and became aggressive...the couple claimed he acted as though he was possessed,” he said, adding the man then attacked the couple with a parang.

Mohd Abduh said the couple managed to run out of the room where the treatment was being conducted and immediately called the police.

He said police rushed to the house and tried to call the man out of the room but did not get any response.

Several policemen then broke open the room door and found the man lying in a pool of blood with stab wounds on his chest and stomach.

Police also recovered the parang and a keris near the man’s body.

He said the man’s body has been sent for a post mortem.
