Security guard gets a year's jail for stealing car tyres

KUALA LUMPUR: A security guard was sentenced to a year’s jail by the magistrate’s court here for stealing car tires belong to a nurse last week.

Magistrate Siti Radziah Kamarudin meted out the sentence against Chairul Anam Iksan, 35, after he pleaded guilty to the offence.

He stole four car tires belonging to Mohd Helmi Ayub, 36, worth RM3,500 at Kampung Segambut, Sri Hartamas between 11.45pm on Jan 8 and 7.30am on Jan 9.

Deputy public prosecutor Afiq Nazrin Zaharinan pressed for a deterrent sentence against the accused.

Chairul, who was unrepresented, pleaded for a minimum sentence stating his wife was six months pregnant and he needed to take care of his ailing parents.

The court ordered the jail sentence to begin from his date of arrest on Jan 14.
