Ipoh-based police officer, possibly drunk, in hot soup for allegedly threatening couple

IPOH: A police station chief (OCS) is being investigated for alleged criminal intimidation after he allegedly threatened a couple in Kampung Simee on Monday.

The officer, who was also allegedly drunk at the time, seized the collar of a man’s shirt and was also said to have tried to assault the man’s wife.

Sources said the 5.45pm incident began when the officer, who has been the OCS at the station here for the past three years, was said to have nearly knocked down the couple, a doctor and his lawyer wife, who were out on a stroll.

A source said the 34-year-old doctor, in frustration, shouted “Woi!”, and this was heard by the OCS.

“The couple claim the officer was driving his Honda City in a reckless and erratic manner. When the doctor shouted, the officer was said to have stopped his vehicle, alighted and grabbed the man by the collar, saying ‘you kenal saya siapa? (Do you know who I am?)’.

“The officer was also said to have told the couple that he would ‘find the couple’s home’. They said they could smell alcohol on his breath and that he seemed to be drunk,” he said.

While the officer had hold of the doctor, the wife took out her mobile phone and began recording a video of what was happening.

This went on for a while before the officer realised what she was doing.

“The officer then rushed towards the wife and was about to hit her, but the doctor managed to stop him. He then got back into his car and drove off,” said the source.

The couple lodged a report at the Kampung Simee police station at 7.45pm the same day.

“The couple provided the video recording of the incident. Based on the recording, we were able to identify the officer. The car which he was driving that day is registered to a woman,” said the source.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Ali Tamby, when contacted, confirmed the incident, adding that case was being investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation.
