Man to serve nine months in jail for stealing RM50

KUALA TERENGGANU: A man was sentenced to nine months in prison by the Magistrate's Court here for stealing RM50 from a fund belonging to a local mosque.

The sentence was handed down by Magistrate Abdul Hayyi Salim after the accused, Mohd Hafiz Ibrahim, 27, pleaded guilty to the charge.

He was charged under Section 380 of the Penal Code for theft.

He was charged with committing the offence at Masjid Lama Kampung Sungai Rengas here at between 3.37pm and 3.52pm on Jan 10.

Prosecuting officer Assistant Superintendent L. Rathna prosecuted while the accused was represented by lawyer Puteri Hikmatul Raudah Dzulaikha Mohamad.

According to the facts of the case, the accused was acting suspiciously on the day of the incident, which prompted the mosque's committee members to view the CCTV footage of the mosque.

The CCTV footage showed the accused entering the mosque after arriving in a Yamaha 125z motorcycle.

He was seen stealing RM50 from a donation box located at the main entrance of the mosque.

A police report was lodged at the Chabang Tiga police station and the accused was arrested in front of a petrol station at Durian Burung here at about 1am on Jan 18.
