Duo who threatened trader who insulted King released on police bail

KUANTAN: Two men who were arrested for allegedly threatening a trader who wrote an insulting comment against the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah on Facebook has been released on police bail.

State police chief Datuk Mohd Zakaria Ahmad said the men, aged 32 and 36 years old, were released yesterday evening after police recorded their statements.

“They were released on police bail but investigations will continue under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation,” he said when contacted today.

In the incident, the two men had allegedly gone to the trader’s premises near here about 2.30pm on Friday and rebuked him for posting an insulting comment against Al-Sultan Abdullah on Facebook and later challenged him for a fight.

The 45-year-old trader lodged a police report at the district police station on Friday night before the duo were picked for investigation.

Meanwhile, Mohd Zakaria said the trader who was also arrested for allegedly insulting Al-Sultan Abdullah on Facebook had also been released on police bail.

He said the man had provided his statement at the Temerloh police station before he was freed yesterday.

It was reported that the Facebook user wrote “muka macam ‘end of the World’ hihi“(face resembling end of the World’ hihi) at the comment section below the image of Al-Sultan Abdullah and Raja Permaisuri Agong Tengku Ampuan Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah on Facebook.

Meanwhile,Mohd Zakaria said the police report lodged against another Facebook user using the account name Desmond Yongkor, who had uploaded an image with comments that insulted Al-Sultan Abdullah, was now being investigated by Bukit Aman’s Commercial Crime Investigation Department (Special Investigation Unit).

More than 100 organisations comprising non-governmental organisations (NGOs), government departments and political bodies lodged police reports against both the Facebook users for allegedly insulting Al-Sultan Abdullah and urged for severe action to be taken.
