Unemployed Cambodian charged with Siti Masitah's murder

ROMPIN: An unemployed Cambodian man was charged at the Magistrate's Court, here, today with the murder of 11-year-old Siti Masitah Ibrahim.

No plea was recorded from the accused, Mohd Amirul Abdullah, 23, from Kampung Parit Tengah, Pekan, when the charge was read in front of Magistrate Azizah Ahmad.

According to the charge sheet, the accused was charged with murdering Siti Masitah, who is also a Cambodian by descent, between 5.50pm to 8pm in Kampung Tanjung Medang Hilir, Pekan on Jan 30.

He was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder which carries the death penalty upon conviction.

The prosecution was led by Deputy Public Prosecutor Syamsul Kahar Ahmad Nadri while the accused was represented by counsel Ahmad Deniel Roslan.

The magistrate set March 25 for remention.

According to facts from the police, Siti Masitah's remains were discovered at about 4pm on Feb 9, and the murder was believed to have taken place about a week prior.

She was reported missing by her family at 5pm on Jan 30.

Pahang Criminal Investigation Department head Datuk Othman Nayan informed that a male suspect was arrested at 2am on Jan 31 to assist in investigation of the missing child.

He subsequently admitted to having killed the child out of revenge.

Post mortem found that Siti Masitah suffered severe injuries to her head which then led to her death.

Police previously revealed that the suspect had no identification documents.
