Three temple management offcials remanded 3 days over dubious land deal

PUTRAJAYA: PUTRAJAYA: Three individuals including a top official 'Tan Sri' were remanded today to assist in graft investigations involving the development of a land owned by the Sri Mahamariamman Devasthanam.

The remand order was issued by magistrate Nik Muizuddin Nik Muhammad at the magistrates' court here today.

It was understood that three individuals were responsible in the management of a Hindu temple located in Batu Caves, Selangor.

The trio were arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to assist in the probe of the questionable deal involving 1.6 hectares plot belonging to the temple.

It was reported that a team of MACC officers raided the house of the top official yesterday. Apart from his home, the graftbusters also raided the temple office as well as the home of another senior officer alleged to be involved in the deal.

Previously, a PKR leader urged the MACC to investigate allegations of misappropriation involving the temple fund alleged to have been committed by the temple committee chairman .

Sri Mahamariamman Devasthanam manages one of the oldest temple in the country, the Sri Mahamariamman Temple at Jalan Bandar, Kuala Lumpur.

The board also manages Batu Malai Sri Murugan Temple in Batu Caves and Kortumalai Vinayagar Temple at Jalan Persiaran Maybank in Kuala Lumpur.
