Filipino transwoman pleads not guilty to public obscenity

KUALA LUMPUR:A Filipino transwoman who allegedly wandered around naked on the streets near Bukit Bintang, here, last week, pleaded not guilty to public obscenity at the magistrate’s court, today.

Kent Carburnay Acuin, 29, a tourist from Cebu, Philippines, however will have to stay behind bars at the Sungai Buloh prison after magistrate Maizatul Munirah Abdul Rahman did not allow her bail as she did not have a local surety.

“I plead not guilty.. How much should I pay (for bail)? I will tell my parents how much to pay,” she said to the court after pleading not guilty to the charge that was read out in English.

Acuin was charged with climbing onto a grey Honda City car while being stark naked with intention to outrage the modesty of a person.

She allegedly committed the offence at Jalan Sultan Ismail, Dang Wangi, here, at about 10.40am on March 13.

The charge under Section 509 of the Penal Code carries an imprisonment of up to five years or a fine or both, if convicted.

The magistrate then set April 22 for mention and told the accused to appoint a lawyer.

“Okay, thank you..What is best for me I will do,” replied the accused.

Deputy public prosecutor Rajdeep Singh Bhupinder Singh prosecuted.

Yesterday, during the proceedings of her charge under the Minor Offences Act 1955, Acuin appeared with long hair, however today, she has had her head shaved.

During the proceedings yesterday, Acuin was charged with climbing onto a car while being naked and acting lewdly which caused public nuisance.

The case will be up for mention on the same day.

It was earlier reported that a person believed to be a transwoman from the Philipines, was spotted running and dancing in the middle of the road naked in Bukit Bintang.

The person had at one point climbed onto the roof of a car that was stuck in traffic and made lewd gestures.

The video of her antics have since gone viral on social media.
