End of the road for Pit Sym motorcycle theft gang

PENDANG: Kedah police believed they have crippled a motorcycle theft gang, known as 'Pit Sym Group', following the arrest of one of its members in Kampung 15 Relong, here, on May 13.

State police chief Datuk Zainuddin Yaacob said the 28-year-old suspect was detained at 10am at his house, which also served as the place to dismantle motorcycle parts, after receiving a public tip-off and conducting intelligence gathering.

“The suspect then took police to a river near the village leading to the recovery of 24 motorcycle frames... Some of the motorcycle frames were reported missing since 2011,” he said, at Pendang district police headquarters, today.

Among the motorcycles found were Honda EX-5, Honda Wave, Yamaha and SYM that were reported missing in Pendang, Kota Setar, Yan, and Kuala Muda.

Zainuddin said when questioned, the suspect told police he and another gang member still at large had only used Allen keys to steal the motorcycles.

“The vehicle was then dismantled at the suspect’s home and the components sold to buyers via WhatsApp or other social media platforms,” he said.

“We are tracking down another suspect, aged 20, and we will also pick up buyers of these stolen motorcycles’ parts to assist in our investigations.” he said.

In another development, Zainuddin said police have detained a 29-year-old man, suspected to be involved in several robberies at convenience stores around Kulim, on May 16.

He said the suspect was detained in Kulim town at 1pm, after he was recorded committing the act at one of the convenience stores.

The case was being investigated under Section 395 of the Penal Code, he said. -- BERNAMA
