SIBU: Police here are in the process to identify a suspect who had raped and impregnated a mentally-challenged girl.
The 17-year-old victim, who is three months’ pregnant, had lodged a police report, but unfortunately, she couldn’t recall the incident and the suspect.
Sarawak Crime Investigation Department (CID) Chief Denis Leong said the investigation is now focusing on identifying the suspect.
“Police are now investigating her circle of friends and acquaintances. We are also looking at victim’s daily routine and places frequented by her,” he said.
“We will obtain more information and call witnesses to facilitate our investigation."
It was learnt that the girl’s mother was aware of the pregnancy in March during a visit to a clinic. However, she did not proceed to file a report as her daughter could not recall the incident.
The victim, accompanied by her mother, finally lodged a report on May 11, after they were advised by the Sibu Hospital.
