Cops track down 'Abang Botak' in viral road rage incident

KUALA LUMPUR: Police are tracking down a motorcyclist caught on video smashing a car’s windscreen in a recent road rage incident that went viral on social media.

Serdang Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Ismadi Borhan said the man in the video had been identified and further investigations were underway.

He urged the public not to take matters into their own hands and asked anyone with information to hand it over to the police.

Ismadi said the driver, a 22-year-old cake shop worker, was driving his Perodua Axia when two men riding motorcycles appeared to be hogging the lane.

He said it was believed that the motorcyclists were unsatisfied with the driver for honking at them.

A video clip of the motorcyclist smashing his helmet on a car’s windscreen has gained traction since Twitter account @999Malaysia posted it last night.

Recorded from the car’s dashcam, the recording started with two motorcyclists seen talking while riding in front of the car.

As the conversation continued, the car driver decided to overtake the duo and drove ahead at 0:24 minute.

After a few minutes, the bald motorcyclist who was not wearing a helmet appeared from the right side.

The other motorcyclist only appeared in the clip 10 seconds later.

During that short second, the car might have grazed the back of the motorcycle – the man’s tyre had gotten stuck seeing that he could not move his bike.

The bald man then jumped off his motorcycle with helmet in hand and smashed the windscreen.

He spent a few seconds arguing with those in the car while his friend examined the tyre, still remaining in the middle of the road.

The car driver then indicated for them to park at the roadside and talk over the matter.

The post, captioned “Borak macam dekat kedai kopi atas jalanraya...bila kena hon ,marah dan pecahkan cermin kereta pengguna jalanraya yg lain..harap PDRM tangkap pembuli/samseng jalanraya” (Chatting on the road like at the coffee shop… when you get honked, you get angry and breaks other people’s windscreen… hope the police will catch this bully/road gangster), has garnered 6,200 retweets and 2,200 likes within 12 hours.

It has also received more than 300 replies on Twitter alone with many condemning the bald man’s actions and calling the authorities to take action on him.
