Alleged dirty MBPJ enforcement officers desk-bound pending internal probe [NSTTV]

SHAH ALAM: Several Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) enforcement officers alleged to have demanded bribes from business operators have been instructed to cease field duties and have been subjected to internal investigations.

Selangor Local Government, Public Transport and New Villages Committee chairman Ng Sze Han said MBPJ had also been directed to give its full cooperation to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in the course of investigations.

“The Selangor government will not compromise on graft, misappropriation and abuse of power in its administration. The demanding and receiving of bribes is wrong. The public are advised to refrain from giving any bribes and report to the authorities if it happens.

“There is no place for corruption in New Malaysia and Selangor is committed to fighting corruption in an effort to create a transparent, clean and trustworthy administration,” said Ng.

Selangor DAP secretary Ronnie Liu was reported to have urged the MACC to probe several MBPJ enforcement officers who are believed to have demanded “duit kopi” from business operators at a shopping mall in Kelana Jaya.

Liu, who is also Sungai Pelek assemblyman, was quoted as saying that the enforcement officers had demanded between RM100 and RM300 from the business operators to avert action from being taken in a special operation involving signboards and advertisements.

He had claimed that the bribes were demanded a day before the special operation was conducted.

Liu had also said that based on the information he had received, there were business operators who had given the bribe to avoid from being slapped with compounds that would reach up to RM1,000.

He had said those who refused to give the bribe were compounded on the day of the operation while those who paid up were spared any action.
