Man driving against traffic flow in Perak crashes into multiple vehicles, flees scene

KUALA KANGSAR: A man drove his car at high speed against traffic flow along Jalan Raja Idris adjacent to the Kuala Kangsar Hospital here, last night, before crashing into several vehicles.

The man, who was being pursued by a policeman on patrol in the 11pm incident, fled the scene on foot after his Honda came to a halt, and is now at large, Bernama reported.

An 18-year-old who was in the car with the suspect was unable to flee and promptly arrested by police.

The authorities have launched a manhunt for the man, identified only as a 27-year-old, who it is learnt has an extensive criminal record of 15 cases of robbery, car theft and house break-ins.

The detained 18-year-old, meanwhile, tested positive for drugs.

“The two suspects are believed have been planning a crime, as police found a fake pistol, small amounts of cannabis and syabu, and a police vest in the Honda,” said Kuala Kangsar district police chief Assistant Commissioner Razali Ibrahim.

He added that police are investigating the case under the Penal Code and Firearms Act 1960.
