#NSTViral Convenience store menace will not be charged

NILAI: The three men who were detained for allegedly damaging food items at a convenience store in a shopping mall, here, are out on police bail.

Nilai district police chief Supt Mohd Nor Marzukee Besar said the three, aged 18 and 20 were released yesterday, after their four-day remand period ended.

"We have referred the case to the Deputy Public Prosecutor (DPP) and no charges will be made.

"They have served their remand for the crime they committed to enable police investigation and that is sufficient," he said when contacted.

Last week, a video went viral showing a male individual, believed to be a teenager, deliberately damaging food items and a bottled drink.

The scene was recorded by what is believed to be the individual's friend, who could be heard repeatedly calling his friend's action as "bodoh" (stupid) accompanied by sounds of laughter.

The one minute and 10 seconds video was later spotted by a store manager who later realised the incident took place at the store he works.

The store manager then lodged a police report which later led to three men being detained by the cops.

Prior to the arrest, a teenager who goes by the handle @luqbubbles on Instagram claimed he was the person in the viral video and issued an apology.

He also claimed he would pay for the damages he caused.
