Sales assistant loses RM95,000 in Macau Scam

KUANTAN: An electrical shop assistant was left RM95,000 poorer after he was accused by bogus police officers of committing several criminal offences recently.

The incident occurred on March 20 when the victim received a phone call from a woman who identified herself as Sergeant Salina Sani from the Kelantan police headquarters.

Pahang commercial crime investigation department chief Superintendent Mohd Wazir Mohd Yusof said the Macau Scam syndicate members had tricked the victim into parting with his savings.

According to the victim, the 'police officer' accused him of being involved in a hit-and-run accident, drug-related and money laundering activities before transferring the call to one Inspector Fazura.

The 23-year-old victim did not suspect anything was amiss when the 'inspector' said she could convince a judge not to issue an arrest warrant against him, provided he paid for legal fees and bail.

The victim then deposited RM95,000 into a bank account before realising that he had been duped.
