GOMBAK: The suspect who molested a nine-year-old girl at a convenient store in Bandar Country Homes in Rawang on July 10 has been arrested.
Gombak police chief Assistant Commissioner Samsor Maarof said the man, a 45-year-old construction worker from Indonesia, was arrested after receiving information from the public.
He said the arrest was made at the Country Homes area and the police also seized the clothes that the suspect was wearing during the incident.
“Checks found the suspect has no identification documents and based on our initial investigation, we are positive that he’s the man involved in the case,” he said in a statement today.
Samsor added that the suspect would be brought to the court tomorrow to obtain remand order.
CCTV footage of the incident, which has gone viral on social media, caused uproar among netizens, who called on the authorities to nab and charge the suspect with sexual assault as soon as possible.
In the 6.19pm incident, the suspect hugged the child from behind before running away.
The girl's father lodged a police report after finding out about the incident from his wife at 8pm the same day.
