Prison warden arrested for processing ketum leaves

JELEBU: Police arrested a prison warden involved in processing ketum leaves at his home in Kuala Klawang, here, last night.

Jelebu police chief Deputy Superintendent Kamarul Rizal Jenal said the man was nabbed by a team of police officers from Jelebu district Narcotics Division at 11:30 pm.

Jelebu police chief Deputy Superintendent Kamarul Rizal Jenal said the raid was conducted under Op Tapis, based on public information on drug trafficking activities in the area.

“The 36-year-old was busy preparing ketum juice at his house, when the police arrived.

“Further investigations found a 14 litre ketum juice inside the pot. Police also found ketum leaves in a plastic bag weighing about one kilogram,” he said when met at the Jelebu IPD here today.

Kamarul Rizal said following the discovery, police also seized a barrel of liquid petroleum gas (LPG) and a gas stove, believed used by the suspect to process the ketum juice.

He said investigations also revealed the suspect had bought ketum leaves from a man in Kampung Triang, here, at RM50 per kg.

“The suspect had also been involved in the activity for the past three months,” he added.

Kamarul Rizal said the case was being investigated under Section 30 (3) of the Poisons Act 1952.
