Edu Ministry lodges MACC report over fake bank statements from contractors

PUTRAJAYA: The Education Ministry has lodged a report with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) today over fake bank statements allegedly submitted by some of its contractors.

The contractors were mainly involved in the Ministry's Cooked Food Supply (BMB), Building and Area Cleanliness (KBK) and Security Control Services (PKK).

Education Minister's Special Duties officer Ulya Aqamah Husamuddin said preliminary investigations revealed that more than 5,000 companies, out of 793 tenders submitted, were involved in falsifying bank statements.

"A total of 16 BMB contractors, allegedly involved in the falsifying bank statements, have received termination notice on Aug 6.

"We will take action against the rest including other service tender projects in stages. The ministry views this matter seriously and will never compromise with anyone who violates the rules.

"We need to take decisive action because such action is unacceptable. The ministry prioritises on integrity and honesty for its contractual and procurement affairs," he said when met at the MACC headquarters today.

Ulya added that the ministry was committed to fight against those who tried to fabricate documents, especially relating to government procurement and contracts.

In line with the New Malaysia agenda to be free of corruption, the officer urged all parties to comply with all government application procedures for tenders.

"The Education Ministry is very firm on this and will not hesitate to report them to the MACC for any wrongdoing during the process," Ulya warned.
