Police report lodged against blog for false accusations

PUTRAJAYA: Political secretary to the education minister Mahmood Kassim today lodged a police report against a blog for accusing him of receiving a luxury multi-purpose vehicle from a contractor as kickback.

"It is a clear malicious intention against me by saying that a Toyota Vellfire was given to the Education Minister's political secretary by a contractor.

"I have also lodged a report with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC)," Mahmood said in a statement today.

He added that he would consult his lawyers before taking legal action against the blog and the irresponsible writer who wrote the article.

"I believe this is a desperate move by certain quarters who want to tarnish the credibility of Education Minister Dr Maszlee Malik by involving him with my personal purchase of the vehicle by sensationalising and posting false news.

"With the police report, I have also submitted documents regarding the vehicle purchase which includes the RM250,000 bank loan under my wife's name and the repayment of RM2, 827 for a period of nine years," he said.

With these supporting documents, Mahmood said, they would quash the allegations made against him, adding that he wanted the authorities to take action against those responsible for the slander.

When met at the Putrajaya police headquarters here, Mahmood did not discount the possibility of the lie being made by some contractors, who were unhappy with him for lodging reports with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission against contractors who falsified account statements to secure tenders from the Education Ministry.
