Sabah police confirms call made to families of kidnapped victims

KOTA KINABALU: The families of the three fishermen, who were abducted in the waters off the east coast of Sabah on Sept 23, have received calls from the kidnappers to demand for ransom.

Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Omar Mammah said the calls were made several days after the three Indonesian fishermen were kidnapped at Tambisan waters off Lahad Datu.

However, no amount of ransom was mentioned by kidnappers.

“It is learned that the kidnappers had also tried to contact victims' employer for the money.

“We will be in contact with the authorities of our neighbouring countries to discuss further about the issue," he said during a press conference at state police headquarters here.

On Sept 23, three fishermen Maharudin Lunani, 48, his son Muhammad Farhan, 27, and nephew, Samiun Maneu, 27, were abducted by seven armed men on two pump boats.

All victims were brought to Tawi Tawi Island off Southern Philippines.
