IGP promises thorough investigation on the kidnapping of Bangladeshi journalist

KUALA LUMPUR: The Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Razarudin Husain emphasised the commitment to conducting a fair investigation, regardless of whether the suspects are affiliated with the police force.

He was commenting on the ongoing investigation into three officers who are suspected to be involved in the kidnapping of a Bangladeshi journalist.

"We would not compromise with any officers or members, should they be involved in any kind of wrongdoing," he said to the media when met at an event earlier today.

On Monday, Selangor police chief, Datuk Hussein Omar Khan, in a statement said a police team and officers from the Gombak District Police Headquarters (IPD) detained three men, who are also public servants, in an operation around 9:30 pm on Nov 10 in Klang Valley.

He said the police are still pursuing another three civilian suspects believed to be involved in the incident to assist in the investigation.

"All public servants and the three local men have been detained to assist in the investigation under Section 385 (betrayal) and Section 342 of the Penal Code (wrongful confinement).

"The police assure a transparent and fair investigation into this case without protecting any party," he said.

Earlier, news circulated on social media regarding the kidnapping involving a Bangladeshi man who is also a journalist for an international media outlet.
