KOTA KINABALU: A cleaner at a budget hotel in Kampung Air here has been arrested for molesting an eight-year-old girl.
The 30-year-old man was arrested by a team of personnel from Kota Kinabalu Police Headquarters’ Criminal Investigation Department at around 6pm yesterday based on a report lodged against him.
Kota Kinabalu police chief Assistant Commissioner Habibi Majinji said the offence took place at the workers’ room at the hotel two days ago.
It was learnt that the victim was resting in the room with her three-year-old brother and five-year-old cousin while her mother was at work.
“The victim said the suspect licked her ear before placing his hand inside her pants. However, the victim only told her mother of the incident when they reached home later that night,” he said when contacted today.
Habibi said the mother, aged 40, immediately brought her child to the police station to lodge a report.
“A report was lodged at 8.16pm and following that, we arrested the suspect at 6.05pm yesterday.
“The suspect is being held for further investigation under Section 14(a) of Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017,” he concluded.
