Teacher pleads not guilty to molesting 3 students

AMPANG: A secondary school teacher who allegedly molested his three students was today denied bail and sent to prison pending sentencing.

The 34-year-old man was slapped with 12 counts of molesting the three girls, aged between 13 and 14, at the Sessions Court today.

The father of four had earlier pleaded not guilty when all the charges were read to him at three separate Sessions Courts here.

Clad in an orange shirt and jeans, he remained calm during the entire proceedings.

He tried to avoid photographers from taking his picture while being escorted into the courtroom by policemen.

The Bahasa Melayu and Geography teacher was alleged to have performed physical sexual assault and masturbated in front of the victims.

He was also alleged to have groped and kissed the students in a room at the school.

The offences were allegedly committed between March 2018 and August 26 this year.

He was charged under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 a maximum jail term of 20 years and whipping, upon conviction.

Deputy public prosecutors Goh Ai Rene, Nur Intan Syakieraah Zakaria and Norhashimah Hashim did not offer bail against the accused.

However, counsel Effa Azlin Aidrul Hisham who represented the accused pleaded for minimum bail stating that his client has to support his family.

He managed to get RM15,000 and RM12,000 bails when the cases were heard before judges Suzana Hussin and Norhazani Hamzah respectively.

However, judge Azrul Darus denied Shahrul for his bail when the cases were brought up before him later on.

The courts fixed Nov 18 for mention. The accused was sent to Sungai Buloh prison.
