Chinese national who rammed into MBPP staff remanded 4 days

GEORGE TOWN: Police have obtained a four-day remand order against a Chinese national who rammed her car into a Penang Island City Council (MBPP) staff on Friday.

Northeast district police chief Assistant Commissioner Che Zaimani Che Awang said the 24–year-old woman was taken to the magistrate's court here today for the remand process.

“We plan to expedite the investigation and hope to wrap up the case soon.

“We are also looking at charging her under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless driving and causing death,” he said in a statement today.

Che Zaimani said investigators were also waiting for the chemist report to determine whether she was driving under the influence of alcohol.

In the Friday morning incident, the victim, 58-year-old Mohaidin Gani Mohamad, was at the traffic light junction at Jalan Datuk Keramat when a car rammed into his motorcycle and several other vehicles from behind.

Mohaidin died at the scene while other motorists escaped unhurt.
