10 KK prison wardens charged with murdering inmate

KOTA KINABALU: Ten prison wardens attached to the Kota Kinabalu Central Prison here were charged at the magistrate's court today with murdering an inmate early this month

The accused were Barry Jipmon, 30; Mohd Dzulfikri Mohd Safri, 28; Farizan Mokri, 41; Mohd Saiful Saidin, 35; Amran Yasik, 25; Ab Mutalib @ Talib Abd Rasul, 40; Zerry Maidin, 33; Tomy Momoh, 36; Shahryll Nazry Wan Sofian, 25; and Muhammad Fazi Lakui, 32.

They were charged with murdering 36-year-old Shainal Mukhtar at Blok Gemilang cell in Kota Kinabalu Central Prison at about 4.30pm on Oct 4.

No plea was recorded.

Magistrate Lovely Natasha Charles fixed Nov 25 for next mention pending chemist amd forensic reports.

State prosecution director Khairul Anuar Abdul Halim prosecuted.

All accused were represented by a team of lawyers led by P.J Pereira.

It was reported that on Oct 4, an inmate was found unconscious and taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital for treatment. However, he was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.

An autopsy result showed that the victim had bruises on his head and body.
