19 foreigners detained in PD

Port Dickson: 19 foreigners were arrested in an integrated operation held here, last night.

The operation involved 225 personnel from 10 agencies in the state.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun said the routine law enforecement operation was conducted to curb the problem of illegal immigrants in the area.

“It is also in conjunction with the Visit Malaysia Year (VMM) next year and operations like these will continue to be held from time to time.

“This operation is also to test the cooperation of all agencies in the task of eradicating the presence of illegal foreigners which will be held throughout the country,” he said at a press conference at the Port Dickson police headquarters.

Meanwhile, Negri Sembilan Immigration enforcement chief Nordin Ibrahim said 189 foreigners were inspected during the five-hour operation held from 5pm to 10pm last night.

“Six of the 19 foreigners detained were women. Nine were detained under Section 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63, due to the expiration of their visit passes, nine others under Section 6(1)(c), who didn’t possess any valid document and one under 39(b) for abusing social visit pass," he said.

All detainees were taken to the Lenggeng Detention Center for further investigation.

Also present were Negri Sembilan police chief Datuk Mohamad Mat Yusof, Port Dickson district Police chief Superintendent Aidi Sham Mohamed.
