Cypark denies involvement in improper disposal of hazardous substances

KUALA LUMPUR: Cypark Resources Bhd (Cypark) has denied any involvement in the improper disposal of hazardous substances near the Cypark and Kualiti Alam Sdn Bhd (KASB) premises in Tanah Merah, Port Dickson.

In response to a news report alleging pollution linked to the disposal of hazardous substances, Cypark said its internal investigation revealed that its facilities were not the source of the 'greenish discharge with a solvent-like smell' mentioned in the articles related.

"We find news mentioning our company in the headline is misleading and could affect the company's reputation if misconstrued.

"Our Cypark SMART Waste-to-Energy (WTE) plant does not own, use or produce any waste with similar characteristics of the chemical illegally dumped as per the news article.

"The location of the dumping site is also not accessible by the small stream outside Cypark SMART WTE perimeters," it said in a statement, adding that a police report has also been lodged on the matter.

At the same time, the green energy solution developer added that it would also extend its full cooperation to the Negri Sembilan Department of Environment (JASNS) and other relevant authorities to clarify and define the source promptly.

"We have lodged a police report today (yesterday) clarifying that the chemical found did not originate from our plant.

"We reserve our rights to take legal action to defend ourselves against deceiving, false or defamatory statements that misleads the public into believing our involvement in the irresponsible act.

"As a responsible corporate entity, we understand the importance of transparency and accountability. We will keep the public informed of any further developments."

Previously, it was reported that JANS has identified pollution believed to be from improper disposal of hazardous substances near the Cypark and KASB premises.

State Entrepreneurship, Human Resources, Climate Change, Cooperatives and Consumerism Committee chairman S. Veerapan said following the department's investigation, a greenish discharge with a solvent-like smell was found.

"JASNS received a complaint at 11.15am today and two liquid samples were taken for analysis.

Subsequently, a report was filed at the Tanah Merah Police Station to inform them of the discovery and request assistance in monitoring the area," he reportedly said.
