GEORGE TOWN: Penang police will seek the help of Interpol to track down three Chinese nationals who allegedly hurled fake bombs at a house in Bukit Gambir, earlier this month.
Outgoing northeast district police chief Assistant Commissioner Che Zaimani Che Awang said that the Immigration Department has also been alerted to keep an eye out for the men at all checkpoints.
He added that there is a possibility that they have left the country through illegal means, such as rat holes,.
"So far, we believe they are still in the country.
“We know their identity and are in the midst of tracking them down," Che Zaimani said today.
Earlier this month, the suspects entered the house belonging to the son of MBI Group International’s founder.
They held Adrian Teow, 28, at knife point and asked for the return of money which they claim they were cheated out of by his father in an investment scheme.
After a scuffle broke out, the trio managed to escape, but not before throwing several homemade bombs into the house.
Che Zaimani said the trio were disgruntled investors who decided to threaten the man when they failed to get their money back.
"They could have (arrived in Penang) about a week before the incident," he added.
The case will be investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder and under Section 8 of the Firearms Act.
Meanwhile, police are awaiting the full report on the alleged child abuse case in Tanjung Tokong Lama here, recently.
Zaimani said that the 34-year-old babysitter in a viral video had admitted that she was “a bit rough” on the baby, but did not harm the 6-month-old.
Initial checks also found no signs of abuse, while the mother of the baby said her child was as active as ever.
"We will wait for the report before taking the next course of action," he added.
The case is being investigated under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001.
