Gurun kidnapping case postponed, Nepali man requires interpreter

GURUN: The court proceeding of a Nepali man facing a kidnapping charge at the magistrate's court here has been postponed pending the appointment of a language interpreter.

Rajaram Sahani, a 36-year-labour was taken to the court to be charged with kidnapping a three-year-old last Sunday.

The charge was framed under Section 363 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 511 of the Penal Code.

However, the accused told Magistrate Anis Suraya Ahmad that he did not understand the charge when it was read to him in Bahasa Malaysia and in English.

The court has set Dec 20 for mention.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Natasha Azmi prosecuted the case while the accused was not represented.

On Nov 26, it was reported a Nepali man was arrested for attempting to kidnap a girl by the roadside in Taman Seri Jeniang, Gurun.

During the incident, the victim's father, who had parked his motorcycle by the roadside to pick up a roti canai order, saw the suspect grab the child before stepping back while pointing a knife at her neck.

The panicked father tried to calm and persuade the suspect to release the child for a few minutes.

The father subsequently apprehended the suspects with the help of bystanders, before he was arrested by the police.

Kuala Muda police chief Assistant Commissioner Zaidy Che Hassan was reported as saying that the suspect was under extreme stress and hunger after fleeing from his employer on Nov 8.

He had said checks showed that the suspect spect arrived a month ago to work at a factory owned by Kilang Jimat Jaya Sdn Bhd in Sungai Lalang.

However, the suspect had escaped from his employer due to work-related stress.
