RM1.6 million worth of illegal drugs to be destroyed in Negri Sembilan

KUANTAN: A staggering RM1.632 million worth of illegal drugs seized by police will be destroyed on Friday (Nov 29).

The drugs, comprising 4,654 items seized from 1999 to 2018, will be destroyed via incinerator at a waste management facility in Bukit Pelanduk, Negri Sembilan.

Pahang deputy police chief Datuk Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri said the drugs include 15 types of synthetic and non-synthetic narcotics weighing a total of 174.65kg and 2,806.09 litres.

He said the drugs include 9.63kg of heroin/monoacetylmorphine, 5.97kg of methamphetamine, 8.93kg of cannabis, and 0.5kg of ketamine.

Other drugs include nimetazepam (1.8kg), yaba (0.307kg), ketum in liquid form (43.84 litres), ketum leaves (145.6kg), codeine (43.84 litres), psychotropic pills (0.025kg) and others (0.486kg).

“The drugs will be disposed of as instructed by the courts, as all proceedings and appeal periods for the cases have ended," he said at a press conference at the Pahang police contingent headquarters (IPK) here, today.

Mohd Yusri revealed that Kuantan recorded the highest number of drug-related arrests and seizures, while Cameron Highlands had the least.

He also said that there has been a seven per cent increase in the number of drug-related arrests in Pahang this year.

“From January to October this year, the number of individuals arrested for drug-related cases increased to 14,179 people from 13,266 for the same period reported last year,” he added.

Pahang CID (Narcotics) chief Superintendent Lam Thiam Huat said that 15 and 16-year-olds were among those arrested this year.
