Negri Sembilan DoE detects chemical waste pollution near Cypark premises

SEREMBAN: Negri Sembilan Department of Environment (JASNS) has identified pollution believed to be from the improper disposal of hazardous substances near the Cypark and Kualiti Alam Sdn Bhd (KASB) premises in Tanah Merah, Port Dickson today.

State Entrepreneurship, Human Resources, Climate Change, Cooperatives and Consumerism Committee chairman S. Veerapan said following the department's investigation at 3.15 pm, they found a greenish discharge with a solvent-like smell.

"JASNS received a complaint at 11.15 am today and two liquid samples were taken for analysis. Subsequently, a report was filed at the Tanah Merah Police Station to inform them of the discovery and request assistance in monitoring the area," he said in a statement today.

He said the incident site is situated within an oil palm plantation with varying gradient surfaces, resulting in the discharge flowing and accumulating in the low-lying area.

However, there is no water flow in the disposal area.

Veerapan said that a barrier tape has been set up at the disposal area measuring 70'x10' to restrict public access to the vicinity,
