Culprits behind burglary at Perak exco's home nabbed

IPOH: Police have smashed ‘Geng Ah Leong’, believed to be responsible for a spate of house break-in cases in the state and Klang Valley, following the arrest of three suspects including a woman recently.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner A. Asmadi Abdul Aziz said police believed they have solved at least 12 house break-in cases including the burglary at state executive councillor, Paul Yong Choo Kiong’s home in Meru last year.

On Dec 4, Yong, in a statement, said his house in Meru Raya was burgled when he was away in Kuala Lumpur from Nov 22 to Dec 1. Two safe boxes and several documents, he added, were stolen.

A. Asmadi said the gang members, aged between 38 and 41, were arrested on Sunday at a house in Meru Valley, Jelapang here. They were believed to have been active since last year.

“Police have seized a white Honda City, three sets of fake car registration plates, break-in equipments, cellphones, tablets, a laptop, gloves and a fake identity card.

“During the arrest, one of the suspects, who is also the mastermind of the gang, suffered leg injury after he jumped off from the two-storey house in his bid to escape the police,” he said in a press conference here today.

A. Asmadi added that the gang they usually target guarded and gated housing area by identifying themselves as contractors before breaking the houses in broad daylight.

“Further checks revealed that the male suspects had criminal records related to drugs and break-in,” he said adding that the case is being investigated under Section 457 of the Penal Code for house break-in which carries maximum 14-years' imprisonment.
