RANTAU PANJANG: Members of the General Operations Force (GOF) seized 12 smuggled Boer goats worth about RM10,000 in an operation here yesterday.
GOF Seventh Battalion commanding officer Superintendent Azhari Nusi said the goats which were being transported in a Toyota Unser, were seized at the Lubok Gong illegal jetty about 2.30pm.
However, he said no one was arrested in the operation as several men believed to be smugglers, escaped on foot.
"Our members from the Tiger Platoon unit saw a group of men in the middle of jetty transporting the animals to the waiting van.
"But they fled after seeing the GOF members approaching the place. Upon checking, they found 12 male goats," he told reporters here today.
Azhari said initial investigations showed that the goats were for local distribution.
He said the animals and the van would be handed over to Malaysian Department of Quarantine and Inspection Services (Maqis) for further investigations.
