PETALING JAYA: Police have arrested another man yesterday for allegedly provoking Immigration Department officers during an operation against illegal immigrants near a temple in Batu Caves recently.
Selangor police chief Datuk Noor Azam Jamaludin said the 38-year-old man was arrested in Batu Caves at 9pm yesterday. His arrest brought to three the number of suspects held so far in connection with the case.
"Currently, we have detained three individuals, aged between 30 and 50, to facilitate our investigations.
"We expect more will be arrested soon based on the video clip of the incident which has gone viral a few days ago," he said, after witnessing the handing over of duties for the Petaling Jaya district police chief today.
At the ceremony, Assistant Commissioner Nik Ezanee Mohd Faisal took over as the Petaling Jaya police chief from Senior Assistant Commissioner Mohd Zani Che Din.
Mohd Zani has been appointed as the new principal assistant director of anti-gambling/vice/gangsterism division in Bukit Aman.
Meanwhile, Noor Azam said police were also investigating whether those involved in the Batu Caves incident were linked with any secret society.
"For now, the case is being investigated under Sections 186 and 506 of the Penal Code for obstructing public servants from discharging their duties and criminal intimidation." he said.
Harian Metro reported yesterday that two men, aged 47 and 56, have been arrested near Batu Caves to facilitate investigations into the case.
Based on the 58-second video clip, about 50 enforcement officers from the Selangor Immigration Department were chased out of an area in Batu Caves where illegal traders, believed to be Indian and Pakistan nationals, were operating.
