Man nabbed for beating 74-year-old mother with steering wheel

KUALA LUMPUR: Police arrested a 36 year-old man for allegedly beating his mother, causing the latter to suffer head injury and lose two front teeth.

Ampang Jaya police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Azam Ismail said the suspect used a steering lock to hit his 73-year old mother about 12.30am yesterday, while the latter was asleep.

"The victim, the third child of the complainant, was also punched while trying to defend herself.

"The cause was believed to be because the complainant had placed a shoe closet that blocked the way to the suspect's room," he said in a statement today.

The police arrested the man earlier today and will be remanded until Feb 27 to assist investigations.

He said the case was being investigated under Section 326 of the Penal Code for intentionally causing serious injury by using a weapon or other dangerous object.
