Police cripple 'geng fius', 10 suspects detained

MELAKA: Police succeeded in crippling ‘Geng Fius’ after detaining 10 suspects including a woman who were suspected to be active in shop and house breakings and vehicle thefts in the Melaka Tengah district since April last year.

Melaka Tengah district police chief, ACP Afzanizar Ahmad said all the suspects were nabbed in six separate raids with the first arrests on Feb 9, namely, at 11 pm involving three men including the main suspect, who was believed to be the gang leader, aged 27 years, in Pulau Gadong.

He said the arrests led to the arrests of the other gang members from Feb 10 to 16 including in Air Keroh, Paya Rumput, Klebang Besar and Bukit Katil.

‘’We believe the results of investigations and the detentions of the suspects, aged 22 to 43 years, have succeeded in solving 24 cases involving shop and house breakings and vehicle theft cases in Melaka Tengah.

‘’Subsequent investigations also found all of them have previous crime records on shop and house breakings, vehicle thefts and drug abuse,’’ he told a media conference at the Melaka Tengah police district headquarters here today.

Afzanizar said police also seized their loots worth RM220,000 including laptops, cellphones and three vehicles including a Mercedez Benz, which were reported missing this year, and two motorcycles.

He said the modus operandi used by the gang was to pull out the main fuse of premises and houses to cut the electricity, alarms and closed circuit televisions before breaking in.

‘’Investigation also found that they were using the proceeds from their activities to buy drugs and to stay at hotels which were close to their targets as they did not have a permanent place to stay. They were all positive on drugs based on urine tests and have been remanded,’’ he added.– BERNAMA
